Had my first real hammerfest since the SM100 sent me home tail between legs. Since then I have been not so enthusiastic about riding, generally slummin around, gainin weight, etc.
I snapped that losin streak today at my very favorite short mtb loop, Fountainhead in Fairfax, VA. Rode 3 little 8 mile or so laps and I am sore. Scoffers should ride there before calling me a puss. It's not in the mountains but it is chock full of short, steep, rooty, rocky, mtb fun. 2.66 hours ride time. 1st lap was 51'05" beating my previous best by 5 seconds. But I felt weak on the climbs and probably was due to my slacking off of rides lately. You know, Dave needed a break from his bike after the S&M100 to mentally recharge and like biking again. My right arm around my elbow has been dounright painful for alot of the last 2 months following a hammerfest day at FH. Me thinks the beating I take on the train is damaging my elbow joint and impinging a nerve. Arm get weak and hurts like hell. Well I have started weight training seriously again, used to call myself a bodybuilder. The resistance training seems to help the elbow out, better than resting it anyways. Last weekend I rode a cake trail at Wakefield and reaactivated the elbow pain. So last night after rummaging around my shed and garage, I found the spacers and jacked my forks' travel from 3" to 4" in hopes of easing the beating my elbow takes. It seems to have worked as hoped for. And even as I was slower climbing, and less comfy with the front end 1" higher, I was totally shreddin everything else. Cleaned everything all 3 laps, including Shock-a-Bully(short STEEP intimidating descent) where I wave walked since Feb when I endo'd off the side nearly dislocating my left shoulder. I think I will stay at 4.
