TWC said 0-10% in Front Royal. So, with all the recent rain, I set out for a Century yesterday. Same ride as last Saturday with a little extra. New ride I planned from looking at the map. All was good until I started getting closer to my 1st big climb up to Skyline on US211N. Fog first followed by drizzle in 30-40 degree weather.
Got to Skyline in heavy fog, drizzle, and wind, but no ice thankfully. Rode the brakes down until road dried enough then coasted. Toes and finger pretty cold. Then I decided to bail on the Century and do the same 80 miles as last weekend. Climbed well on Fort Valley Rd. No cramps, no walking on the 12% or so grade hill.
But, afterwards thing really degraded with 30 miles to get back to my truck in Front Royal. Drizzle picked up and temps dropped in Fort Valley. I was so happy to make it to the FV Grocery alive. Lady who runs the place said i was crazy riding that day. True. A guy I met ring at Elizabeth Furnace last year had mercy and gave my shivering timbers a ride back. Good thing because I was getting hypothermic. If not for the rain I'd have done well. Maybe I will stick to my mtb until Springtime.

How did I trash that image? I rode 59.5 miles...oh well, it looks like last weekend's almost.
