I was not ready to deal with the heat on Skyline Drive Sunday. Threw in the towel around 1:30 after 60 miles. Good day though. I wonder if I will finish the 6 Gaps next month. I have been reading http://hilljunkie.blogspot.com/ and had previously thought to myself I can hang with this guy. No more. He will slay me if I am dumb enough to try to keep his wheel. I am thinking I will start 6 Gaps a couple hours before the main(fast) group goes off. Run with 4 water bottles, one with Hammer Perpetuem, and ride my pace (slow) and skip stops if my water holds out. Maybe I should retry the Camelback thing. I don't have to fill it all the way up and all the extra water would allow me to roll through one or 2 rest stops and really boost my average speed. But the extra weight would KILL me on the 20%+ grade sections! OK, 2 bottles and hit every stop and DRINK alot of water.
I will test the extra water ideas on Skyline Drive...and Massenutten's Fort Valley Rd 12% grade.
If I can keep losing weight I might be ok. Just hit 158.8# this morning. !st time I have seen 158# since my mid thirties. Only 3.5 weeks till Vermont so I still could see the low side of 150#. My goal of 145# is probably unobtainable by May 23 because I have no food discipline. Wife, the better half, loves to eat. Got cheesecake in the fridge. If I was single I could lose easy. With her around it's tough.
