SM100 kicks my a**

Good God, that ride was brutal. I finished in about 14:37 and about an hour before the last finisher rolled in. The winner in about 7:06, unreal.

Stats
Before

avg hr=157
max hr=187
calories burned=10816
avg ride speed=7.1 mph(6.9 mph real avg)

Lessons Learned

*100 miles on Skyline drive is not enough road distance to simulate effort
needed for the race. Maybe 150 is. Maybe a 14 hr ride regardless of the distance. Do much more single track at Elizabeth Furnace to truly equal the physical beating I took at the race.

*Re lube with Butt Butter at CP3 &5. I did at 3 but not 5. I have saddle sores. Also lube hands better. My hands got a bit raw too.

*Install large diameter grips. My hand hurt pretty bad yesterday.

*Spend more time at ALL CPs eating and drinking a lot of water. Nutrigrain bars and
watermelon at CP5 revived my interest in finishing the race. In all the other
CPs I spent as little time as possible and risked a DNF as a result.

*Get lighter! I have already lost 35 lbs this year. Keep losing, about 145 is my reasonable goal, down from 165ish and 195ish in January. I was slayed on the climbs. The downhills were a BLAST though and inspired me to continue on after the demoralizing climbs. I made up a bit of time there. I love my Ellsworth Truth and was amazed at the precision and speed in which I carved down all the downhills, especially the smooth fast ones.

*Run slightly higher tire pressure. During an emergency braking event, my front tire bead broke and I nearly got a flat. I started with 32#fr 34#rear. Try 35#fr 35rear. I am surprised this hasn't happened during an Elizabeth Furnace ride. Keep running Stan's in Hutchinson Python Light UST tires. I am used to them and they work well for me.

*Put band aids on my nipples. My jersey rubbed my right one raw.

*Beef up my double water bottle holder. My aluminum strut broke due to the extended beating and dumped my tools and my light battery pack along with allowing the bottle holder more freedom of motion.

Race Nutrition

*Drink more water. For about 5-6 hours I did not pee. I was probably dehydrated. A few extra minutes at CPs drinking water could make bigger time on course.

*Get an extra Hammer Gel flask. Because CP 4 had no gel and I was dying. Maybe eating Nutrigrains and watermelon would do the trick.

*Perpetuem seems to help but I do not feel like the HEED did. I did hit some Enduralytes and suffered no cramping whatsoever. Pick up the enduralytes I bagged at CP5 to give to fellow riders. I gave a few away but stopped in case I ran out for me. I had decided I did not need a bottle of them I had dropped at CP5. Eat more Nutrigrains, but not too many at once. I think I overdid them at CP6.

Goals
*Get below 145 lbs
*Finish before dark next year.
*Pace myself better.(No hammering anywhere)

My actual time was 14:31:15, like that matters.
