It was Freakin HOT!!!

Thermo on my porch said like 95-96. Weather guessers shot for 99 with dew point in the 70's. Heat index>100. So what pray tell you ask what your bike jester does? If I was sane, I's ride in the woods where some shade may be found. I am not entirely sane. Fountainhead was locked up with some bike race, just when I planned to do mucho laps and suffer. By the time I did get back home and saddle up the steel schwinn it was high noon. No clouds. My circuit takes me around the airport in Manasas. After a couple of trips and 27 miles I stop in the crib 4 water and such.
Even my water bottle water was barely drinkable after 1/2 hour into a 1.33 hour "lap". it was tepid. 6 hours riding in direct sun and strong winds off the airfield, almost zero shade, it was heinous. 101 miles, I was sufferin. The whole ride was an exercise in thermal overload avoidance. Got so hot/bonked I was loopy dizzy a few times. I hope the SM100 is not that hot but if it is this might be my chance this decade to keep up with that hill guy up North who says he can't take the heat.

Will a whole jar of Endurolytes get me through the SM100? We've had one day this summer that hit 90F. Just a couple above 80F. 75F this summer feels hot. I need to figure out carefully what to put in my two drop bags. Lights will not be in either of them.

I don't know how you will do it. I only need Edurolytes in cold weather. Never cramp when it's hot. But I will bring about 3 dozen caplets on the ride just in case. I will drop lights at aid station 5 . I think I will not need them this year but "just in case". Just a good mechanical or 2 might make me need them. My best advice is to use the aid stations not as pit stops but recovery stations. Stay at them until you drink alot more water than you think you need. Extra chamois lube is a good drop item. I got weird last weekend on my HOT ass ride and ate a can of vienna sausages. like a pregnant woman I was craving the things. I will pack some in my drop bags. You will do well as long as you respect the ride and ride well within yourself at least until AS#5.
I lost my control and hammered early 2 years ago and after 25 miles I knew I was in trouble. Took 14.5 hrs to finish.
